Questions many companies are asking about their global operations and supply chain:
Â
The ICR "Golden Rule" Toolbox contains (partial list) these proven tools:Â
And perhaps most telling is the alarming trend depcited by the following graph. While productivity for most industries in the us has steadily improved over the past 40 years, productivity in the construction industry has actually declined.

Figure 1 US Labor Productivity Index from 1964 to 2005 - Construction vs. Manufacturing
Why this negative trend? Because the majority of construction projects today are executed almost exactly the same way they have been for the past 40 years. ICR intends to change that. ICR's approach to implementing Lean Supply Chain principles on modern construction projects as many benefits, as summarized in the following Table:
| FROM (current state) | TO (future state) |
|---|---|
| Non-standard materials drive costs up |
Standardized materials reduce project costs |
| Decentralized buy-out done by each contractor | Increased negotiation leverage through centralized sourcing |
| Multiple suppliers providing similar items | Reduced supplier base = improved efficiencies |
| Large, costly inventories stored on-site | Smaller, as-needed materials "buffers" on-site |
| Little/no visibility to true on-site materials | Active real-time management of on-site materials |
| Little/no visibility to incoming deliveries | Improved planning and on-time deliveries |
| Dliveries 'pushed' to the site by the supplier | Deliveries 'pulled' by on-site planners as needed. |
| Time lost spent looking for materials |
Improved productivity and efficiency of labor crews |
| Wasted time spent moving materials again and again | Fewer accidents through fewer touches |
| Materials are lost, stolen or broken before use | Lower costs through reduced materials replacements |
| 'CYA' Mentality | Collaboration and cooperation among trades |
| Each contractor maintains seperate logistics, transportation, handling and storage systems | Integrated web-based access to real-time information, shared use of systems and processes |

As shown below, ICR follows our proprietary 5-Phase Strategic Sourcing© methodology, this model was originally created by one of the Purchasing Magazine Medal of Excellence award winnning manufacturing companies and has since been successfully adapted by ICR to the construction industry. The Phases of ICR's strategic sourcing methodolody include:
